Oh Lorde
Okay so the last time I wrote about Lorde was in July when she was up and coming New Zealand born singer. Between then and now she completely blew up all over the world, and you either love her or you hate her. She's also one vocally opinionated 17 year old, dissing mainstream celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez just to name a few. But with that being said her debut album Pure Heroine was a total success around the world, debuting at no.3 in the US Billboard 200 chart, and she became the first solo New Zealand act to reach the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her single Royals. The songs are very reminiscent of her EP The Love Club. Simple, minimalist songs with beautifully written lyrics. Its hard to imagine a 16/17 year old writing such profound stuff, but there it is. Some of the stand out songs for me in this album have to be Buzz Cut Season as well as the single Tennis Court, for which the video by the way is stunning. It seriously looks like she's singing with her eyes. Stunning. Although I know a lot of people who don't like the video and think it was really cheaply made, which I don't think was the point of it at all.
If you want to listen to the whole album without buying it first here's a playlist of her whole album. I strongly suggest you buy it if you like her style as it's one of those albums that you will revisit time and time again.
